Baseball Game Preview: Westwood Panthers vs. Mexia Black Cats

The Westwood Panthers will challenge the Mexia Black Cats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Westwood has given up an average of 12.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Westwood managed to slip by Groesbeck the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Westwood lost 17-3 to Groesbeck last Friday.

Meanwhile, Mexia came up short against Teague on Friday and fell 8-3.

Austin Williford was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Mexia saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braden Wilson, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double was Wilson's first of the season.

Mexia dropped their record down to 5-8 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Westwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-11.

Westwood couldn't quite get it done against Mexia in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Can Westwood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
