League recap: Harvard stuns Franklin in upset

D1 District 5 (8 Man) recap October 22, 2013

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Harvard, who defeated 42nd ranked Franklin, 15-12. Colton Ives threw for 54 yards and ran for 72 yards in the win.

Bruning-Davenport/Shickley added to the longest winning streak in D1 District 5 (8 Man) this week by beating Heartland, 48-26. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.

Damon Kaliff provided a threat through the air and on the ground as McCool Junction defeated Red Cloud. He completed 9 passes for 107 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 50 yards. Kaliff's key target this week was Auston Calvert, who caught 2 passes for 44 yards.

Allen Brand made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Cardinals topped the Flyers. The 6-foot-4 junior forced 1 fumble and recorded 1 fumble.

Calvert was the best wideout in the league this week as the Mustangs defeated the Warriors. Calvert tallied 2 receptions for 44 yards. Alex Preslicka helped McCool Junction's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 30 yards.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, McCool Junction's Kaliff and Preslicka have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-9 quarterback Kaliff has thrown for 956 yards this season, while Preslicka has 31 catches for 667 yards. The Huskies' Tyler Brown leads the league in rushing yards with 1,115.

A big matchup in D1 District 5 (8 Man) this week will be when Bruning-Davenport/Shickley takes on Harvard. Mark Rotter / Chris Ardissono's team is in first place, while Sam Boshart's team is in fourth place.

Red Cloud lost to Jarrod Weiss/Jerad Niederklein's team 50-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Wyatt Bell was a bright spot for Jason Heldt's team, as he threw for 35 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 29 yards in the defeat.
