Baseball Recap: Person Starts Season with Win at Home

Person gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Northern Durham Knights a 10-0 shutout. The Rockets have beaten the Knights the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Knights has come to flipping the script.

Nicholas Young was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Young was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Ian Downey tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Keeghan Holmes, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Brady Holmes was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Person was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northern Durham only posted a batting average of .105.

Person has already played their next match, a 13-1 victory against South Granville on the 27th. As for Northern Durham, they will square off against Roxboro Community at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
