Softball Recap: Newport Takes a Loss

Newport was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 12-1 to the Hoxie Mustangs. The Greyhounds were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Newport saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ayden Coffey, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double. That double was Coffey's first of the season.

Newport's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Hoxie, they pushed their record up to 6-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

When Newport and Hoxie next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Newport will face off against Harrisburg and their three-game winning streak at 4:30 p.m. on April 3rd. Meanwhile, Hoxie will try to stop East Poinsett County's three-game winning streak when they meet at 4:00 p.m. on March 31st.
