Basketball Game Preview: Waterville Panthers vs. Mount View Mustangs

Waterville and Mount View are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Waterville Panthers will challenge the Mount View Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Waterville has struggled recently with 16 losses in a row, while Mount View will arrive with eight straight wins.

On Monday, Waterville had to suffer through a 71-20 loss at the hands of Erskine Academy. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Eagles are ranked 39th).

Meanwhile, Mount View made easy work of Leavitt on Friday and carried off a 57-36 victory. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 21 points or more this season.

Mount View pushed their record up to 14-6 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.7 points per game. As for Waterville, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-14.

Waterville was taken down by Mount View 65-19 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can Waterville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
