Softball Game Preview: Middle Creek Mustangs vs. Willow Spring Storm

Middle Creek hasn't had much luck against Willow Spring recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Middle Creek Mustangs will head out to take on the Willow Spring Storm at 4:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Middle Creek lost 17-3 to Fuquay - Varina on Friday.

Middle Creek saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madelyn Herndon, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Willow Spring fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Harnett Central on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 15-13. The loss was the Storm's first of the season.

Georgia Miller made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 5-for-6 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Abby Howard was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

Even though they lost, Willow Spring kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Willow Spring fell to 2-1. As for Middle Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Middle Creek suffered a grim 13-4 defeat to Willow Spring when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Middle Creek avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
