Basketball Recap: Hanks Takes a Loss

Hanks was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 46-43 heartbreaker at the hands of the Burges Mustangs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Knights of the 37-35 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

It was another big night for Anthony Rubio, who posted 16 points and eight rebounds for Burges. The match was Rubio's third in a row with at least ten points. Phillip A. Leff was another key player, putting up eight points.

Hanks' defeat dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Burges, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-12.

Hanks will face off against Del Valle at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Del Valle knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Hanks likes a good challenge. As for Burges, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Cathedral at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Burges is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.3 points per game this season.
