Baseball Game Preview: Fishburne Military Caissons vs. Virginia Episcopal School Bishops

The Fishburne Military Caissons are taking a road trip to take on the Virginia Episcopal School Bishops at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Fishburne Military is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against The Covenant on Saturday. They lost 7-0 to the Eagles. The Caissons have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Fishburne Military saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Ezersky, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Ezersky has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Meanwhile, Virginia Episcopal School unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against Highland, falling 16-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Bishops have suffered since April 2nd.

Nate Gobble and Lawrence Dempsey stepped up to the plate in a big way. Gobble went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Dempsey went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Dempsey is becoming a predictor of Virginia Episcopal School's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't).

Virginia Episcopal School's loss dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Fishburne Military, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Fishburne Military has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Virginia Episcopal School struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Fishburne Military suffered a grim 15-1 defeat to Virginia Episcopal School when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Caissons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
