Preview: Winston County Yellowjackets vs. Belgreen Bulldogs
Having just played yesterday, the Winston County Yellowjackets will get right back to it and host the Belgreen Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th. Winston County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 366th, while Belgreen is ranked 129th).
On Monday, Winston County came up short against Phil Campbell and fell 52-43. Winston County has not had much luck with Phil Campbell recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Winston County had strong showings from Lynleigh Cobb, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 18 rebounds, and Emma Kate Veal, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. Cobb is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Meanwhile, Belgreen scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They breezed by Carbon Hill on the road to the tune of 74-37. Considering Belgreen has won five matches by more than 19 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Winston County's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Belgreen, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3.
Winston County was taken down by Belgreen 68-37 when the teams last played back in December of 2018. Can Winston County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
