Softball Game Preview: Mandeville Skippers vs. Academy of Our Lady Penguins

The Mandeville Skippers will head out on the road to challenge the Academy of Our Lady Penguins at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mandeville has three straight victories, Academy of Our Lady has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Mandeville proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 11) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Covington 5-4.

Mandeville got a great performance from Zoe Burg as she struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Burg a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Caroline Thornhill, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Lindsay Berniard, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Academy of Our Lady came up short against Walker on Thursday and fell 10-7.

Mandeville's win bumped their record up to 15-5. As for Academy of Our Lady, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.

Everything went Mandeville's way against Academy of Our Lady in their previous matchup back in April of 2018, as Mandeville made off with a 10-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Skippers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
