Softball Recap: Lyons Comes Up Short

Lyons fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Resurrection Christian on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 7-6. Surprisingly, this marked the Lions' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Gretta Wynja spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lyons saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Dickes, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run. That triple was Dickes' first of the season. Another was Ava Vasquez, who earned two runs and one stolen base.

Lyons' loss dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Resurrection Christian, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lyons will take on Brush at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Beetdiggers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.8 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Resurrection Christian, they will challenge Weld Central at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
