Football Recap: Coal Ridge Skates Past Fort Lupton with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Coal Ridge). They blew past the Fort Lupton Bluedevils 55-0 on Friday. The Titans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by 36 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Dylan Miller, who threw for 195 yards and four TDs on only 16 passes, and also rushed for 46 yards. Those 46 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was John Luke Houston, who picked up 82 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Coal Ridge's run defense was locked in: Fort Lupton could only muster 2.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Aiden Huey for the heroic effort on defense: he. Coal Ridge didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.9.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Coal Ridge, racking up 19 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Marcus Munoz, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

The victory (which was Coal Ridge's third in a row) raised their record to 3-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.0 points on average over those games. As for Fort Lupton, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coal Ridge will venture away from home to take on Wheat Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. After each having a week off, Fort Lupton and Weld Central will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. The contest will give the Bluedevils their first taste of in-conference action this season.
