Volleyball Recap: Cheyenne Conner Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Montgomery Academy

Hoover hadn't done well against Montgomery Academy recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Buccaneers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Eagles, sneaking past 2-1. This was payback for the Buccaneers, who suffered a 3-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hoover to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cheyenne Conner, who had 15 digs and two aces. That's the most aces Conner has posted over her last five matches. Brynn Toenes was another key player, getting 11 digs and five assists.

Despite the defeat, Montgomery Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Elizabeth Campbell had nine digs and three aces.

Hoover has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-18 record this season. As for Montgomery Academy, the loss snapped their winning streak at ten matches and leaves them with a 31-4 record.

Hoover has already played their next matchup, a 2-1 defeat against Austin on the 4th. As for Montgomery Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 victory against Mountain Brook on the 4th.
