Football Game Preview: Calexico Bulldogs vs. Imperial Tigers

Calexico is 0-10 against Imperial since October of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Bulldogs will take on the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Calexico's defense has only allowed 13.8 points per game this season, so Imperial's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Two weeks ago, Calexico ended up a good deal behind Brawley and lost 28-14.

Although Calexico took the loss, they still got scores from Andre Lopez and Jose Fernandez.

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed eight in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Lopez, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, on Friday Imperial's undefeated season almost came to an end. They skirted past Central 10-7. Those ten points were actually the fewest the Tigers have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

A big part of Imperial's victory came down to the chemistry between Gio Robles and his top target Deren Hueso. Robles picked up 101 receiving yards and one score while Hueso rushed for 133 yards.

Imperial's record now sits at 7-0. As for Calexico, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Calexico has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 232.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Imperial struggles in that department as they've been averaging 162.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Calexico was taken down by Imperial 48-6 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
