Softball Recap: Lake Cormorant Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses at Home

After only two runs in their last matchup, Lake Cormorant made sure to put some runs up on the board against Olive Branch on Thursday. Lake Cormorant was the clear victor by a 15-5 margin over Olive Branch. Lake Cormorant might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by nine runs or more this season.

Aubrey Kirkpatrick and Chatham Hamberlin made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Kirkpatrick struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Hamberlin pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those six strikeouts gave Kirkpatrick a new career-high. At the plate, Kirkpatrick scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Hamberlin went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

In other batting news, Lake Cormorant let Alivia Burns and MaKenzie Nails run wild. Burns scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Nails scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. That's the most runs Nails has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Alanna Weaver, who scored a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Lake Cormorant kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Olive Branch only managed nine hits.

Lake Cormorant's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-14. As for Olive Branch, they are on a 15-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15.

Coming up, Lake Cormorant will take on DeSoto Central at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Jaguars will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Lake Cormorant surely won't give up without a fight. As for Olive Branch, they will square off against Independence at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
