Baseball Recap: Edinburgh Drops Highest Score of Season Against South Decatur

Edinburgh is still winless after their match against South Decatur on Thursday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cougars. On the bright side, the five- run performance marked the Lancers' highest-scoring game to date.

Avynn Whitaker was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Cole White was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs. Those runs were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Milas Burkman, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Edinburgh's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for South Decatur, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

While Edinburgh had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
