Preview: Phillips Wildcats vs. Curie Condors
After five games on the road, Phillips is heading back home. They will take on the Curie Condors at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Phillips has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 350 points over their last five matches.
Phillips pushed their score all the way to 67 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 71-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of Simeon. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Phillips came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Simeon is ranked 299th).
Phillips' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Lawrence Horton, who scored 24 points along with 9 rebounds, and Amari Edwards who scored 20 points along with 3 steals. Edwards scored a full 29.9% of Phillips' points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of DeAndre Addison, who scored 8 points.
Curie has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 21 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 66-32 victory over Brooks at home.
Phillips' victory bumped their season record to 3-2 while Simeon's defeat dropped theirs to 3-3.
Phillips couldn't quite finish off Curie in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 and fell 67-64. Will Phillips have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other basketball content.
