Basketball Recap: Standing Bear Grizzlies vs. Gretna East Griffins

Standing Bear was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a hard 70-51 fall against the Gretna East Griffins. While losing is never fun, the Grizzlies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while the Griffins are ranked 20th).

Despite the loss, Standing Bear still got an impressive performance from Carlos Risueno, who went 7-for-9 to rack up 17 points and eight rebounds. Risueno continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Coen Lambie also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Standing Bear was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. This was only their tenth loss (out of 13 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

Connor Levinson was nothing short of spectacular for Gretna East: he went 6-for-7 from beyond the arc on his way to 20 points. Thanks to that strong game, Levinson now owns an excellent 40.3% three-point shooting accuracy. Drew Rhoades was another key player, going 6-for-8 en route to 14 points.

Standing Bear's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Gretna East, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.
