Softball Recap: Mount Mercy Academy Takes a Loss

Mount Mercy Academy extended their losing streak to seven on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 5-8 in the process. They fell 9-5 to the Mount St. Mary Academy Thunder. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Thunder this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 on Tuesday.

Natalie McOwen was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Kayla Davis was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

As for Mount St. Mary Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games.

On Mount St. Mary Academy's side, Taylor Zajac was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Zajac was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one triple. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Liliana Misterkiewicz, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs. Another player making a difference was Claire Gaulin, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

As of now, neither Mount Mercy Academy nor Mount St. Mary Academy have any future games scheduled.
