Preview: Chandler Wolves vs. Basha Bears
Chandler has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Basha Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Chandler focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Wednesday.
Chandler scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 69-32 victory over Corona del Sol. The victory was just what Chandler needed coming off of a 66-41 loss in their prior game.
Chandler's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Karis Hurd, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Averi Mehlberg, who scored 15 points along with five steals.
Basha suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They took a serious blow against Hamilton, falling 81-38. While losing is never fun, Basha can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while Hamilton is ranked fifth).
Despite the defeat, Basha saw an underclassman step up: Grace Beckler dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Beckler has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last six times she's played. Rose Bosch was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.
Chandler's win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-9. As for Basha, they now have a losing record at 10-11.
Chandler strolled past Basha in their previous meeting back in November of 2023 by a score of 65-50. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Basha's Rylie Sword, who scored 28 points along with two steals. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Chandler still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
