Baseball Recap: Matanzas Comes Up Short

Matanzas had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 1-4 to make it nine. They took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Taylor Wildcats. The Pirates were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 4-2.

As for Taylor, the win got them back to even at 2-2. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Taylor's part, Chase Heimbach made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Heimbach was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Drew Moyer and Jace Harcus did most of the damage at the plate: Moyer got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI, while Harcus went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Moyer has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Micah Ritch, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Matanzas will challenge Palatka at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Taylor, they will take on Crescent City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
