After a string of 13 wins, Newark's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of the Rock Island Rocks by a score of 2-1. The Norsemen were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rocks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.
Zoey Carlson paced Newark's offense, picking up ten kills. Carlson got some help from Taylor Jeffers and her 17 assists. Morgan Hergenhahn controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.
Newark's defeat dropped their record down to 25-4. As for Rock Island, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-14.
Newark wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 2-1 win against Belleville West on the 18th. As for Rock Island, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 victory against Urbana on the 18th.
