Softball Recap: The Christian Academy Takes a Loss

Calvary Christian Academy hit The Christian Academy with a four-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Christian Academy took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Calvary Christian Academy. The Christian Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Calvary Christian Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Avery Burghart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maddy Spitalie was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

The Christian Academy has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Calvary Christian Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-11.
