Kayce Tom and Taylor Whited secure win for Montezuma-Cortez

Recap: Montezuma-Cortez Panthers vs. Gunnison Cowboys

The Montezuma-Cortez Panthers won the last time they faced the Gunnison Cowboys, and things went their way on Friday too. Montezuma-Cortez was the clear victor by a 58-35 margin over Gunnison. The win made it back-to-back wins for Montezuma-Cortez.

Montezuma-Cortez was led to victory by Kayce Tom and Taylor Whited. Tom scored 13 points, while Whited scored 15 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Those six assists set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Savannah Haselroth, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.

Gunnison's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kylee McDougal, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds, and Sienna Gomez who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McDougal has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maria Sabas, who scored two points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Gunnison struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Montezuma-Cortez racked up 12 assists.

Montezuma-Cortez now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Gunnison, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
