Basketball Recap: Eagle Falls Short Against Ranked Timberline

On Saturday, Eagle faced Timberline in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Eagle Mustangs fell just short of the Timberline Wolves by a score of 56-53. The Mustangs have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Berkley Jones, who posted 19 points and seven rebounds. With that strong performance, Jones is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Taya Nelson, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 13 points.

Eagle's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-4. As for Timberline, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eagle will challenge Capital at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Eagle is facing Capital at the right time seeing as Capital is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Timberline, they will square off against Meridian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
