Softball Game Preview: Middletown Blue Raiders vs. Palmyra Cougars

Middletown hasn't had much luck against Palmyra recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Blue Raiders will square off against the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Middletown has five straight wins, Palmyra has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Monday, Middletown got the win against Susquehanna Township by a conclusive 20-5. The Blue Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by 12 runs or more this season.

Delaney Fitzpatrick and Journee Stover did most of the damage at the plate: Fitzpatrick went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Stover scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2. Stover is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Meghan O'Brien, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Middletown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Palmyra lost 19-3 to Hershey on Wednesday.

Mia Morrison was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Middletown pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Palmyra, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.

Middletown might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Palmyra in their previous matchup back in May of 2018. Can the Blue Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
