Mineral Point and Iowa-Grant are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Pointers will take on the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mineral Point is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
Mineral Point took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Fennimore, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Pointers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Golden Eagles on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pointers have posted since May 11, 2024.
Meanwhile, Iowa-Grant hadn't done well against Boscobel recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over the Bulldogs. That looming 20-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Panthers yet this season.
Quinn Hoeper made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Hoeper was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Trinity Baker was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Carly Shores, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Iowa-Grant always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Iowa-Grant has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Mineral Point, their record is now 6-3.
Mineral Point couldn't quite get it done against Iowa-Grant in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can the Pointers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
