Softball Game Preview: Sunny Hills Lancers vs. El Dorado Golden Hawks

The Sunny Hills Lancers are taking a road trip to take on the El Dorado Golden Hawks at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. El Dorado took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Sunny Hills, who comes in off a win.

If Sunny Hills beats El Dorado with 11 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Everything went Sunny Hills' way against Sonora on Tuesday as Sunny Hills made off with an 11-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lancers.

Alexis Perez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.

At the plate, Sunny Hills got a massive performance out of Samaya Holguin, who went 3-for-5 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that Holguin launched this season. Another player making a difference was Amelia Herbert, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Holguin wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Sunny Hills lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.

El Dorado might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 3-2 to Mayfair, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Golden Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

El Dorado saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Remmi Marquez, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

El Dorado's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Sunny Hills, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 7-4.

Sunny Hills came out on top in a nail-biter against El Dorado in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, sneaking past 8-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sunny Hills since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
