Basketball Recap: Sidney Lewinsky Key Part of a Team Effort in Knights Win

Monarch won the last time they faced Coconut Creek and things went their way on Thursday too. The Monarch Knights snuck past the Coconut Creek Cougars with a 58-54 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Monarch to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sidney Lewinsky, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. Lewinsky is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Steven Strong also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Despite the loss, Coconut Creek saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jahvon Jasmin went 8 for 19 en route to 31 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jasmin has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Teriq Roper, who posted 12 points.

Monarch has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for Coconut Creek, they dropped their record down to 1-15 with the defeat, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Monarch will challenge Stoneman Douglas at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Stoneman Douglas' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 12 matchups. As for Coconut Creek, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Coconut Creek Cougars duke it out with the Coral Springs Charter Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
