Softball Recap: James Lick Gets the Win

James Lick made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Overfelt, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Comets were the clear victors by a 22-11 margin over the Royals on Friday. The Comets not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 25, 2024.

Natalie Cortez was a standout: she scored four runs and stole ten bases while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jada Cruz, who scored three runs and stole seven bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Cortez wasn't the only one making solid contact: James Lick kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.

James Lick's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Overfelt, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. James Lick will take on rival Yerba Buena at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Someone's luck will take a turn for the better: the Comets have lost five straight at home (dating back to last season), while the Aztec Warriors have lost three on the road. Meanwhile, Overfelt is set to challenge their familiar foe Mt. Pleasant at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
