Baseball Recap: Millard South Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Millard South dropped their record down to 16-7 on Friday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins on the road dating back to last season. They fell just short of the Papillion-LaVista Monarchs by a score of 6-4. The Patriots were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Monarchs earlier this season, when they won 11-1.

Millard South saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake McAndrews, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

As for Papillion-LaVista, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 13-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 11th.

On Papillion-LaVista's side, Landyn Albrecht was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Albrecht has become a key player for Papillion-LaVista: the team is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 8-9 otherwise. Albrecht was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That double was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colton Peters, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Evan Eddie was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Millard South will square off against rival Omaha Westside at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Patriots 3.5, the Warriors 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Papillion-LaVista is set to face off against their familiar foe Pius X at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
