Basketball Recap: York Institute Takes a Loss

York Institute lost against Gatlinburg-Pittman back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The York Institute Dragons had to suffer through a 80-52 loss at the hands of the Gatlinburg-Pittman Highlanders. While losing is never fun, the Dragons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 367th, while the Highlanders are ranked 42nd).

Gatlinburg-Pittman's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Quinn Coykendall, who posted 18 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Wade Whaley, who scored 12 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

This is the second loss in a row for York Institute and nudges their season record down to 1-15. As for Gatlinburg-Pittman, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.

York Institute will head out to take on Jackson County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Jackson County will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something York Institute surely won't give up without a fight. As for Gatlinburg-Pittman, they will be playing at home against Oneida at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Gatlinburg-Pittman is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 70 points per game this season.
