After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Magna Vista, Bassett was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Martinsville Bulldogs, posting a 51-14 win. Given the Bengals' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 124th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 262nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bassett to victory, but perhaps none more so than David Cook, who threw for 196 yards and two TDs on only 12 passes, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. The dominant performance also gave Cook a new career-high in passer rating (149.3). Caiden Snider was another key player, rushing for 79 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries.

Bassett was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 214 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Martinsville didn't rushed for any.

Bassett now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Martinsville, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-7.

Bassett will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Halifax County at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th. The Bengals will be up against the Comets' rather soft defense (which has allowed 32.25 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Martinsville, they have already played their next contest, a 56-21 loss against Carroll County on the 30th.
