Baseball Recap: Archbishop McCarthy Comes Up Short

Archbishop McCarthy and Mater Academy Charter squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Archbishop McCarthy had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 10-9. The defeat continues a trend for the Mavericks in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost five in a row.

Nestor Herrera and Joey Shapiro did some serious damage despite the final result: Herrera went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Shapiro went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Herrera is becoming a predictor of Archbishop McCarthy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 12-13 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Perez, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Archbishop McCarthy's loss dropped their record down to 16-15. As for Mater Academy Charter, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 26-6.

As of now, neither Archbishop McCarthy nor the Lions have any future games scheduled.
