Preview: St. George's Gryphons vs. First Assembly Christian Crusaders
St. George has been on the road for nine straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the First Assembly Christian Crusaders at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
St. George's suffered their biggest loss since November 21, 2023 on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 78-55 loss at the hands of Harding Academy. While losing is never fun, St. George's can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 215th, while Harding Academy is ranked 99th).
St. George's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jackson Jones, who scored 17 points, and Tristan Farris who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals. Zeke Cowell was another key contributor, scoring six points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, First Assembly Christian had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Northpoint Christian 61-34 on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win First Assembly Christian has posted since December 15, 2023.
St. George's has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for First Assembly Christian, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3.
St. George's couldn't quite finish off First Assembly Christian in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 and fell 65-63. Can St. George's avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
