Two dominant backs in Woody Schettini and Qwantavius Wiggins are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. After each having a week off, the Northgate Vikings and the Langston Hughes Panthers will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are still undefeated after seven games, but that won't be the case come Friday.
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Northgate against Morrow as the team secured a 39-6 victory. The Vikings pushed the score to 39-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Mustangs cut but never quite recovered from.

Northgate got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Treveon Gill out in front who picked up 109 receiving yards, and also rushed for 37 yards. Those 109 receiving yards gave Gill a new career-high.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Langston Hughes). They simply couldn't be stopped last Friday as they easily beat McIntosh 68-13. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Northgate better keep an eye on Darnell Kelly. He was instrumental in Langston Hughes' win, throwing for 188 yards and three touchdowns on only ten passes, while also rushing for 63 yards and one TD.incredibly, Kelly got all that yardage with just one huge run Another receiver making a difference was Jamarion McKinney, who picked up 106 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Langston Hughes' run defense was locked in: McIntosh could only muster 0.7 yards per carry. The team can thank Deon McKinley for the heroic effort on defense: he. Langston Hughes hasn't allowed more than 9.3 yards per carry in three consecutive matchups.
Langston Hughes' defense didn't let Elijah Strader, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Jaylen White and Aji Griggs, who each picked up one sack apiece. Deion Williams got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Northgate's record is now 7-0. As for Langston Hughes, their record now sits at an identical 7-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Northgate has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 219.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Langston Hughes struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 239.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Northgate was taken down by Langston Hughes 46-0 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
