Basketball Game Preview: Hunter Wolverines vs. Cyprus Pirates

The Hunter Wolverines will face off against the Cyprus Pirates at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Cyprus took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Hunter, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Hunter turned things around against Taylorsville on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 49-32 win over the Warriors.

Hunter can attribute much of their success to Grace Gallagher, who went 5 of 6 on her way to 11 points along with six blocks and five boards, and Destini Perez, who posted 12 points and five steals. Gallagher is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last 27 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiana Pauni, who put up four points and five steals.

Meanwhile, Cyprus was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 15th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against West Jordan, falling 63-37.

Cyprus' loss dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Hunter, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-10.

Hunter beat Cyprus 71-58 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Does Hunter have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cyprus turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
