Basketball Recap: Gavin Hawkins' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Western Boone over Sheridan

Western Boone was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 67-56 to the Sheridan Blackhawks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Stars of the 61-44 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Western Boone lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Gavin Hawkins, who went 6-for-7 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds. The contest was his fifth in a row with at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Tristyn Faulk, who posted 13 points.

Even though they lost, Western Boone smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sheridan to victory, but perhaps none more so than Damon Winston, who went 6-for-15 en route to 17 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. Caleb Wright was another key player, going 8-for-12 to rack up 19 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.

Western Boone's loss dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Sheridan, their record is now 14-5.

Coming up, Western Boone will head out on the road to challenge Cascade at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Western Boone is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.4 points per game this season. As for Sheridan, they will welcome Edinburgh at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Sheridan also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 68.7 points per game.
