The Forest Hill Falcons will take on the Palm Beach Gardens Gators at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Forest Hill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Last Tuesday, Forest Hill didn't have quite enough to beat Palm Beach Central and fell 7-6. The Falcons have struggled against the Broncos recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Alex Seal was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Aaron Moreno, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Palm Beach Gardens, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Atlantic Christian a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Gators' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Lucas Valencia and Ian Vertucci were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Valencia struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Vertucci tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Palm Beach Gardens is 3-1 when Vertucci allows two or fewer hits, but 5-11 otherwise. At the plate, Valencia scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Vertucci scored a run while going 1-for-3. That's the most hits Valencia has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Chase Turner and Mason Ryder did most of the damage at the plate: Turner scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Ryder got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run and three RBI. Turner is becoming a predictor of Palm Beach Gardens' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-12 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Tony Bieber, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Palm Beach Gardens was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Forest Hill's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Palm Beach Gardens, their victory bumped their record up to 8-12.
Forest Hill took their win against Palm Beach Gardens in their previous meeting back in February by a conclusive 10-3 score. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Gators have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
