Softball Game Preview: Mt. Gilead Indians vs. Fredericktown Freddies

Mt. Gilead hasn't had much luck against Fredericktown recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Indians will look to defend their home field against the Freddies at 5:15 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Mt. Gilead took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Shekinah Christian as they made off with a 16-1 win. With that victory, the Indians brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

The team relied heavily on Anavey Jodrey, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Trinity Schrote was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Mt. Gilead was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Fredericktown never let their opponents score on Monday. They blew past East Knox 10-0. The Freddies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

Fredericktown is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Mt. Gilead, they pushed their record up to 3-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Mt. Gilead might still be hurting after the 29-0 loss they got from Fredericktown when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
