Baseball Recap: Shepherd Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Shepherd ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks, sneaking past 6-4. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Pirates as it put an end to their ten-game losing streak.

Cyrus Martinez was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Martinez was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Shepherd is 2-1 when Martinez posts two or more stolen bases, but 6-14 otherwise.

Shepherd's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-10 and their overall record up to 8-15. As for Hardin-Jefferson, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-13-1.

As of now, neither Shepherd nor the Hawks have any future games scheduled.
