Baseball Recap: Midd-West Comes Up Short

After flying high against Milton on Wednesday, Midd-West came back down to earth. The Mustangs fell just short of the Danville Ironmen by a score of 11-10 on Friday. Even though they lost, the Mustangs' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.3 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Kyle Shupp led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs and one double. Midd-West is 4-1 when Shupp posts two or more runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Derek Wert, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run.

Midd-West now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Danville, their record now sits at 4-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Midd-West will host Central Columbia at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Danville, they will be playing at home against Mount Carmel at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Ironmen's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tornadoes have averaged an impressive 11.8 runs per game this season.
