Basketball Recap: Douglas Byrd Starts Season with Defeat at Home + How To Watch

Douglas Byrd unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were outmatched by the Cape Fear Colts and fell 54-5. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it 12 in a row.

Cape Fear was led to victory by Emily Harris and Karamia Shields. Harris went 8-for-16 en route to 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals, while Shields shot 45% from the field on her way to 13 points and six steals. Those seven boards gave Harris a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jada Harley, who posted seven points and 11 rebounds.

Douglas Byrd didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-18 defeat against Purnell Swett on the 24th. As for Cape Fear, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-39 loss against The Burlington School on the 22nd.
