Basketball Game Preview: Kirby Prep Griffins vs. Anzar Hawks

Kirby Prep and Anzar are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Kirby Prep Griffins will host the Anzar Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Kirby Prep will be strutting in after a win while Anzar will be coming in after a defeat.

Kirby Prep is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took down Ceiba College Preparatory Academy 58-40 on Monday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Griffins as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Kirby Prep relied on the efforts of Rain Li, who posted 19 points and eight boards, and Chris Lively, who scored 18 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Lively a new career-high in rebounds. Cameron Jacobs was another key player, putting up six points and four steals.

Meanwhile, Anzar lost 72-48 to Pajaro Valley on Wednesday. While the Hawks didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Grizzlies 21-8 in the first quarter.

Anzar's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Kirby Prep, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-9.

Kirby Prep was able to grind out a solid victory over Anzar in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 45-38. Will Kirby Prep repeat their success, or does Anzar have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
