Baseball Recap: Wellington Gets the Win

Wellington took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Brookside, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Dukes narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Cardinals 7-6. This was a revenge game for the Dukes: when they faced off against the Cardinals back in April, they had to take a 8-2 defeat.

Brandon Perez looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Wellington is 2-1 when Perez allows one or fewer earned runs, but 7-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Connor Sheppard, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and three RBI. He has become a key player for Wellington: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 6-9 otherwise. Landon Beall was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The win snapped Wellington's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-10 record. As for Brookside, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Coming up, Wellington will host Keystone at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Brookside does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
