Softball Recap: Clay Has No Trouble Against Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington

Clay's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington Blue Jays. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by eight runs or more this season.

Laney Shepherd made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Sarah Cassidy was incredible, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Elin Shaw was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Clay always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Clay's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Coming up, Clay will venture away from home to take on Oak Hill at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington, they will welcome Peebles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
