Baseball Recap: HCYA Extends Winning Streak to Four

HCYA posted their closest win since March 1, 2024 on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Tomball Kings Homeschool 3-2. For HCYA, this counts as revenge for the 12-9 victory Tomball Kings walked away with the last time they faced one another back in June of 2020.

Rome Gatlin looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, HCYA saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joshua Hillman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. Luke Parish also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

The win (which was HCYA's fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Tomball Kings, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8-1 record this season.

HCYA and Tomball Kings could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. HCYA (ranked 330th) will meet Mansfield Timberview (ranked 139th) at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Tomball Kings will square off against Crosby at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday down 182 places (274 vs. 92).
