League recap: Marvin Ridge stuns Anson in upset

3A Conference 8 recap November 5, 2013

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Marvin Ridge, who defeated 153rd ranked Anson, 15-7.

Sun Valley added to the longest winning streak in 3A Conference 8 this week by beating Cuthbertson, 30-24. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Spartans.

Albert Funderburk was a beast in the backfield as Sun Valley topped the Cavaliers.

Steven Fusco threw for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was 21-45 with 1 interception.

Funderburk provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Paul Hall's team bested Cuthbertson. Funderburk's favorite target this week was Nigel Wiley, who caught 2 passes for 31 yards.

BJ Muckelvene was the best wideout in the league this week as David Johnson's team lost to the Spartans. Muckelvene tallied 9 receptions for 100 yards. Nick Karas helped Cuthbertson's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 57 yards.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Cavaliers' Fusco and Ryan Kendall have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-3 quarterback Fusco has thrown for 1,361 yards this season, while Kendall has 49 catches for 558 yards. Sun Valley's Funderburk leads the league in rushing yards with 1,882.

The Bearcats are currently in fourth, while the Spartans are in second.

The league will see a high scoring game when Anson and Sun Valley face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Luke Hyatt's team comes in having scored 219 this season, while the Spartans have scored 254. The Bearcats scored 7 points last week as they lost to Marvin Ridge.

Sun Valley led 3A Conference 8 in scoring this week after putting up 30 points on Cuthbertson. Funderburk ran for 236 yards during the win.
