Basketball Recap: Columbus Discoverers vs. Fremont Tigers
Columbus was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a blow against the Fremont Tigers, falling 70-40. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 60-55 back in January.
Several Discoverers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaxson Vasicek, who posted seven points and nine rebounds. Vasicek has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Zach Nelson, who scored eight points.

Even though they lost, Columbus smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive contests.
Kieryn Grothe had a dynamite game for Fremont, going 8-for-16 on his way to 22 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Grothe has become a key player for Fremont: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least 20 points, but 7-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Vacha, who earned 12 points and seven boards.
Columbus' loss dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Fremont, their record is now 10-11.
Columbus wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, an 85-58 defeat against Lincoln East on the 15th. As for Fremont, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-61 loss against Lincoln Northeast on the 15th.
