Softball Game Preview: Rosary Academy Royals vs. Northwood Timberwolves

The Rosary Academy Royals will challenge the Northwood Timberwolves at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rosary Academy is coming into the contest hot, having won their last nine games.

On Friday, Rosary Academy beat Irvine 7-2.

Ava Phillips looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Rosary Academy let Audrinah 'Boo Boo' Barajas and Hayden Huerta run wild. Barajas got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two RBI, while Huerta scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave Huerta a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jenna Caldera, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.

Rosary Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Irvine only posted an OBP of .300.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Northwood's offense. They came up short against Woodbridge on Wednesday, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Timberwolves' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Rosary Academy pushed their record up to 18-2-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Northwood, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
